6 Easy Ways from Phu Quoc International Airport to City Centre

Landing at Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) and wondering how to reach Duong Dong or your beach resort?

The catch is that Phu Quoc is bigger than people expect. A drive from Sunset Town in the south to the Vinpearl complex in the north takes 45 minutes. So where you’re staying changes which option makes sense.

This guide covers six ways into town, with cost, time, and exactly when each one is the right call. Once you’re settled, our guide on Things To See And Do In Phu Quoc helps you plan the rest.

Before You Go: Distance, Drive Times & Arrival Tips

Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) sits in Duong To, on the southwest of the island. Here is how far you are from the main areas where travellers stay:

AreaDistance from airportDrive time
Long Beach (north end)~8 km10-15 min
Duong Dong town centre~10-15 km20-30 min
Sunset Town / An Thoi (south)~17 km25-35 min
Ong Lang Beach (west)~20 km30-40 min
Vinpearl / Bai Dai (northwest)~30-40 km45-60 min

Know the airport (quickly)

Phu Quoc has one terminal that handles both domestic and international flights. After clearing immigration and customs, all transport options sit just outside the arrivals hall or in the airport car park. Vietnam’s autogate system is now active at PQC for eligible passport holders, so foreign visitors who qualify can clear entry in under a minute.

See our Vietnam Autogate Guide for who can use it.

Tips before you choose transportation

  • Have your hotel name and address ready, with the Vietnamese version or a pinned Google Maps location.
  • Download Grab before you land. It is the most reliable way to book a fixed-price ride.
  • Carry small VND notes (50,000 and 100,000) for bus fares and tips.
  • Late arrivals (after 10 PM) cut your options to taxi, Grab, or pre-booked private car. Public buses stop running.

1. Bus #11 (cheapest public option)

If you’re on a backpacker budget and travelling light, the blue Airport Bus #11 is the cheapest way off the airport. It runs from the airport car park to central Duong Dong via Long Beach.

Cost20,000 VND (~$0.80)
Time~30 min to Duong Dong
Last stop111 Nguyen Trung Truc Street – Google Maps
Operating hoursDaytime only (no late-night service)

Why choose Bus 11

  • Cheapest option by far.
  • Reaches both Long Beach (first stop, ~10 min) and central Duong Dong.
  • Stops outside the airport car park, a short walk from arrivals.

Trade-offs

  • Limited luggage space. Multiple large bags may require paying for an extra seat.
  • No service late at night.
  • You’ll likely still need a Grab or taxi for the last few minutes to your hotel.

Pro tip: Bus 11 makes sense if you have a backpack or one small suitcase, you’re staying on or near Long Beach or Duong Dong, and you land in daylight. Beyond that, the cost gap between Bus 11 and a Grab disappears once you split a fare with someone else.

2. Taxi (simple, but choose reputable)

Walk out of arrivals, get in line, go. Taxis are the most direct option, especially if you don’t have mobile data or aren’t familiar with Grab.

Cost200,000–350,000 VND (~$8–$14) to Duong Dong
Time20–30 min
Where to findOfficial taxi line outside arrivals

Reputable companies to look for

  • Mai Linh (green vehicles)
  • Vinasun (white with red and green logo)

Why choose a taxi

  • No app needed.
  • Available 24/7.
  • Direct and door-to-door.

How to keep it stress-free

  • Stick to the official taxi line outside arrivals. Ignore drivers approaching you inside the terminal.
  • Ask the driver to use the meter, or agree a fixed price before leaving.
  • Have your hotel name written down. English pronunciation can confuse drivers.

Pro tip: If two or three of you are sharing, a metered taxi often beats Grab on price during high demand.

3. Grab / Ride-hailing (upfront price in app)

If you have the Grab app and mobile data, ride-hailing gives you the best balance of price transparency and convenience. The fare is shown before you confirm.

Cost160,000–250,000 VND (~$6.50–$10) to Duong Dong
Time20–30 min
PaymentCash or in-app card

Why choose Grab

  • Upfront price, no negotiating.
  • English-friendly. Driver and pickup confirmed in the app.
  • Surge pricing is visible before you book, so no surprises.

Watch out for

  • Pickup point confusion. The Grab pickup area is in the airport car park. Follow the signs and use the in-app map.
  • Surge during peak arrival waves. If a flight just landed, fares can double. Wait 15 minutes and try again.

Pro tip: Install Grab and load a card before you fly. Activating it after landing without local data is painful.

4. Motorbike Taxi / Xe Om (cheapest for solo travellers)

If you’re solo with a backpack, a xe om gets you into Duong Dong for the price of a coffee back home.

Cost~50,000 VND to Long Beach, ~70,000 VND to Duong Dong
Time15-25 min
Where to findOutdoor parking lot (short walk from arrivals)

Why choose a motorbike taxi

  • Cheapest option after Bus 11.
  • Fastest in traffic, especially in Duong Dong’s narrow streets.
  • No waiting in line.

Trade-offs

  • Backpacks only. Not viable with suitcases.
  • Helmets are provided but quality varies.
  • Not allowed inside the terminal area. You walk to the outdoor lot.

Pro tip: Always agree the price before getting on. Drivers don’t use meters.

5. Hotel or Resort Shuttle (free if you booked one)

Most luxury resorts in Phu Quoc include or sell airport pickups. If you’re staying somewhere remote, the north coast Vinpearl complex, southern Sunset Town, or the Ong Lang strip, this is often the smoothest option because the driver waits for you at arrivals with a welcome board.

CostFree with some bookings; otherwise 400,000-800,000 VND ($15 – $30)
TimeVaries by resort location
Where to findHotel rep in arrivals hall with a welcome board

Resorts that commonly offer pickups

  • Vinpearl Resort & Spa Phu Quoc (north)
  • JW Marriott Emerald Bay (south)
  • Fusion Resort Phu Quoc (north)
  • Regent Phu Quoc (Bai Truong)
  • Mövenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc

Always ask before booking your hotel. Many properties bundle the transfer into a package, others charge a fixed rate that beats a metered taxi to the same address.

6. Private Car Transfer (door-to-door, easiest overall)

A pre-booked private car is the cleanest arrival on the island. The driver waits at arrivals with a welcome board, takes your bags, and drives straight to your hotel or villa anywhere on Phu Quoc.

CostFixed per booking (not per person)
Time15–60 min depending on destination
Vehicle4-seater sedan or 7-seater for groups/luggage

Why this is the easy button

  • Fixed price. No negotiating, no meter anxiety.
  • Door-to-door, including to remote north and south resorts.
  • Driver tracks your flight. Late arrivals are not a problem.
  • 7-seater handles families and luggage-heavy trips comfortably.

Who should book it

  • Groups of 3-7 people. Often cheaper per person than separate Grabs.
  • Families with kids and multiple suitcases.
  • Anyone arriving after 10 PM.
  • Travellers heading north (Vinpearl) or south (Sunset Town / An Thoi) where the drive is 30 minutes or more.

Final Thoughts

When you arrive, the transport choice is the easy part. The friction usually starts before that, at the immigration hall, especially when several international flights land at PQC in the same window. After a long flight, the last thing you want is to spend an extra hour in a queue before you even reach your driver.

Fast Track Vietnam puts a professional agent by your side from the moment you land in Phu Quoc, guiding you through priority immigration lanes for a smoother airport arrival.
