Da Lat Flower Festival 2026 (19–31 Dec): Flying In via Lien Khuong, Cam Ranh or Tan Son Nhat

Da Lat Flower Festival 2026

Da Lat is Vietnam’s odd one out: pine forests instead of palm trees, misty mornings instead of tropical heat. It has also quietly become the country’s favorite place to fall in love, or fall in love again, the sort of town where couples still rent swan-shaped pedal boats at dusk and where half the wedding albums in Vietnam seem to have a photo taken on its lake.

Locals call it the City of Eternal Spring, and once every two years the city leans into both reputations at once and turns itself into a flower show. Streets get planted with a single flower down their whole length, public squares fill with sculpted gardens, and by the time it winds down, close to a million potted flowers have passed through downtown. The eleventh edition runs December 19 to 31, and this year it is reaching further than any before it, spilling past Da Lat into neighboring towns for the first time.

Getting there takes a little more thought than usual this December. Da Lat’s own little airport just came back from a long break, closed for repairs early in the year and only reopened in August. Depending on where you are flying from, landing right in Da Lat, coming in through the beaches of Nha Trang, or connecting through Ho Chi Minh City might each make more sense than you would guess. Here is how to think it through, the way a local would, one who has seen a few too many honeymooners land at the wrong airport.

A Festival Eleven Editions in the Making

Da Lat has been doing this since 2004, when a modest downtown flower show grew into a province-wide tradition held every other December since 2005. This is the eleventh edition, and it leans harder than usual into the city’s identity: Da Lat earned the title of UNESCO Creative City of Music a couple of years back, and Lam Dong province’s official plan for this year ties a jazz program directly into the flower displays to make the most of it.

What It Actually Feels Like on the Ground

This is less a festival with a stage and a ticket gate, and more the whole town rearranging itself around flowers for two weeks. In the last edition, organizers moved close to a million potted flowers into public spaces, and this year is expected to match that or go bigger. Wander around and you will find whole streets replanted for the occasion, each one usually carrying a single flower theme down its length.

A floating stage right on Xuan Huong Lake, Da Lat’s storied lovers’ walk, hosting the Vietnam Jazz Festival alongside the lakeside flower displays after dark.

  • An international flower and orchid exhibition, plus a flower-fashion performance night that is exactly as charming as it sounds.
  • The Vietnam Brocade Culture Festival and a carnival of bands and dance groups circling the lake.
  • Da Lat’s own flower-growing villages, Van Thanh, Thai Phien, and Ha Dong among them, opening their fields and greenhouses to visitors as part of the wider route.

New this year, the festival’s reach extends past Da Lat itself into Phan Thiet and Gia Nghia, part of a longer-term push to turn this from a two-week event into something closer to a year-round flower city identity.

Picking Your Way In

Da Lat’s own airport, Lien Khuong, spent about five months closed for a runway rebuild and only reopened on August 19. It is back and flying more routes than before the closure, but this December is its first real test since coming back, right in the middle of Vietnam’s busiest travel season. Worth keeping in mind before you assume a direct flight will be easy to find.

Flying Straight Into Lien Khuong

Land here and you are practically already at the festival, a short, scenic drive past pine hills and market gardens into town, the kind of drive that visibly relaxes the honeymooners on your flight. The terminal itself is worth a glance on the way through: its roof was built to echo the shape of a wild sunflower.

Coming In Through the Beaches of Nha Trang

Cam Ranh serves Nha Trang, and it plays in a different league internationally than Lien Khuong does, it is one of the few airports in Vietnam that actually handles more international travelers than domestic ones. The catch is the road afterward: it is a genuinely scenic few hours up into the hills to reach Da Lat, on a route that plenty of travelers treat as part of the trip rather than a chore.

This is the route for anyone already dreaming of a few beach days before the mountain air, salt breeze trading for pine by the time you arrive. Nha Trang’s coastline and Da Lat’s cool highland evenings make an easy, natural pair, festival or not.

Routing Through Ho Chi Minh City

Tan Son Nhat is Vietnam’s busiest gateway, and it has by far the easiest, most frequent onward flights to Lien Khuong, several a day, just over an hour in the air. For most travelers coming from outside Vietnam, this quietly ends up the most dependable way in, even if it means an extra short hop instead of one long flight.

Here is the savvy part: if your connection window at Tan Son Nhat is tight, immigration lines there can run long, especially in December. A fast track service can meet you at the gate and get the paperwork done in minutes rather than the better part of an hour, which matters more than usual when there is a domestic flight, and a mountain full of flowers, waiting on the other side.

A Few Local Tips for Festival Week

December is Da Lat’s dry season, and the air carries that particular highland chill locals half-joke keeps couples walking closer together, cool and clear by day, genuinely cold once the sun drops behind the pines. Bring a proper layer for the evening programs around the lake, more than you think you will need.

Book a room early. The streets around Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Vien Square fill up well ahead of the festival, and prices tend to climb the closer it gets to opening night.

Expect some streets around the lake and square to go pedestrian-only during the festival’s busiest days. If your hotel sits in that stretch, plan on the last leg being on foot.

December 31 does double duty as both the closing night and Da Lat’s New Year’s Eve celebration, which makes it the single busiest night of the whole run. If a quieter visit matters more to you than the closing fireworks, aim for a weekday somewhere in the middle of the festival instead.

Quick Questions

Is Lien Khuong really back to normal after the closure?

It reopened on August 19 with more flights than it had before, but this December is its first real holiday rush since the rebuild. Book direct flights early rather than counting on last-minute availability.

Could I just do the festival as a day trip from Nha Trang?

You could, but it is a long day given the drive each way. Most people combining the two stay at least one night in Da Lat to actually enjoy it.

Is the festival free to wander around?

Most of the street displays and public flower spaces cost nothing to walk through. A handful of exhibitions and premium seating for evening shows charge separately, generally not much.

Final Thoughts

Da Lat only puts on this particular show once every two years, and the eleventh edition is leaning further into what makes the city worth falling for in the first place than most, tying its flowers to its music and stretching the celebration into towns that have never hosted it before.

The trip there is really the only part that takes planning, and with Lien Khuong still finding its feet again after months away, this is the December to sort out your route before the flowers, and the flights, get harder to book.

If your route runs through Ho Chi Minh City, Fast Track Vietnam can meet you at Tan Son Nhat and get you through immigration in 10 to 20 minutes, more time to make a tight connection to Lien Khuong instead of standing in line.
