4 Days in Phu Quoc: A Beach Lover’s Itinerary (2026)

View of Phu Quoc coastline featured in a 4 days in Phu Quoc beach lover's itinerary for 2026 with top beaches and attractions

Four days is the sweet spot for Phu Quoc if beaches are your priority. You get time to hit the south, the west and the An Thoi archipelago without racing between hotels.

This itinerary is built for travellers who came for the sand and the sea. You land at Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC), you have four full days, and you want soft beaches and clear water without a Google spreadsheet of activities.

Below you will find a day-by-day plan, a comparison of the five best beaches, and the practical stuff (visa rules, weather, airport transfer) that decides whether Day 1 starts calm or stressed. Prices are in USD with approximate VND conversions where useful.

Why 4 days is the right length for a beach trip

Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island at 574 km², so a two-day trip only covers one coastline. A week starts to hit diminishing returns for a pure beach holiday. Four days lets you sample:

  • The South (Sao Beach, Khem Beach)
  • The West (Long Beach, Ong Lang)
  • The Archipelago (An Thoi boat day) without overpacking the schedule.

If you have fewer than three days, stay south and skip the boat trip. If you have five days or more, add the north (Bai Thom, Vung Bau) or a second boat day.

Before you fly: visa, weather and the airport

Three logistics questions decide how smooth the first day feels. Get them right and Day 1 becomes a beach afternoon instead of a scramble.

Visa: The Phu Quoc exemption

Foreign nationals of any nationality can enter Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days, as long as Phu Quoc is your only destination in Vietnam.

-> The catch: the exemption only holds if you fly direct to PQC from an international airport, or stay in the international transit zone at Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai or Da Nang without clearing immigration there.

If you plan to combine Phu Quoc with Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi on the same trip, you need a standard Vietnam e-visa.

Check the Vietnam Immigration Department for the current list of eligible nationalities and application steps.

When to go

Dry season runs November to April, wet season May to October. December through February is peak: calm seas, clear skies, and hotels on Long Beach sell out weeks ahead. November and April are quieter shoulder months with similar weather at lower prices.

Landing at PQC

Phu Quoc International Airport is small: one international terminal, one domestic. Baggage moves quickly. The pinch point is immigration on peak arrival waves, when direct flights from Seoul, Bangkok and Singapore land within the same hour.

If your flight lands late evening or during the December-February peak, a Phu Quoc Fast Track Service ($35) puts an agent at the arrival gate and walks you through the priority immigration lane.

For the terminal layout and facilities, see the Phu Quoc International Airport Guide.

Day 1: Land, unpack, sink into Long Beach

Morning to early afternoon: Land at PQC. Transfer to your hotel takes 15-30 minutes to central Long Beach, 40 minutes to Ong Lang, and up to an hour to the southern resort strip.

See our Six Ways from PQC to The City Centre for options and prices.

Afternoon: Check in, drop bags, walk south along Bai Truong (Long Beach). This 20 km stretch of west-facing sand is the island’s vibrant heart. The southern end near JW Marriott has quieter coves; the central section around Duong Dong has the beach bars.

Sunset: Long Beach faces west, which makes it Phu Quoc’s default sunset venue. Grab a plastic chair at a beach bar, order a fresh coconut ($2 / around 50,000 VND), and watch the sky change.

Evening: Dinner at Duong Dong Night Market. Point-and-eat seafood, grilled to order. Expect $10-15 per person (250,000-380,000 VND) for a full meal with a beer.

Day 2: An Thoi archipelago boat day

Morning: Get picked up around 8 a.m. for the three-island boat tour. Most operators leave from An Thoi harbour in the south. Popular stops include Hon Gam Ghi, Hon May Rut and Hon Dam Ngang. The boat provides snorkel gear, lunch onboard, and time to swim.

Midday: Snorkelling over coral reef. Water clarity in dry season runs 8-15 metres of visibility. Bring reef-safe sunscreen; several dive spots sit inside marine protected areas.

Late afternoon: Boats usually return by 4-4:30 p.m. If you have energy left, drive 20 minutes to Bai Khem (Khem Beach), a crescent-shaped bay next to JW Marriott. It ranks among Flight Network’s top 50 beaches globally, and sunset light from the south side is a different mood to Long Beach.

Booking note: Reserve the boat one to two days ahead in peak season.

Expected cost: $20-30 (500,000-750,000 VND) per person including lunch.

Day 3: Slow west coast: Ong Lang and the north

Morning: Head to Ong Lang Beach, about 7 km north of Duong Dong. It is the anti-Long-Beach: smaller resorts, rocky headlands between sandy coves, and a quieter pace. Bring a book. This is a lounging day.

Midday: Lunch at a beachside restaurant on Ong Lang, or drive 10 minutes further north to Cua Can River for a paddleboard hour.

Afternoon: Continue north to Vung Bau Beach or Bai Dai. These wide, empty stretches have almost no development and suit a long walk. Sunset here feels far from the resort strip.

Evening: Drive back to Duong Dong for dinner, or eat at your Ong Lang hotel.

For quieter spots most tourists miss, see our Hidden Gems in Phu Quoc guide.

Day 4: Sao Beach morning, easy departure

Early morning: Drive south to Bai Sao (Sao Beach), 45-60 minutes from central Duong Dong. This is the postcard beach: powdery white sand, shallow calm water, coconut palms lined up like a stock photo. Arrive by 9 a.m. before the day-tripper coaches show up around 11.

Late morning: Lunch on the sand at one of the beach restaurants. Fresh seafood, grilled squid, cold beer. Budget $8-13 per person (200,000-330,000 VND).

Afternoon: Return to your hotel, shower, pack. For international departures, aim to reach PQC two hours before your flight. Domestic: 90 minutes.

At the airport: Departure queues at PQC are usually manageable, but peak evenings can back up.

-> A PQC Departure Fast Track is $35 and puts an agent with you through the priority immigration lane if you want the last day to stay calm.

Practical tips for a beach-first trip

  • Getting around: Motorbike rental is cheapest at $6-8 (150,000-200,000 VND) per day. Grab works around Duong Dong and Long Beach but is patchy for southern and northern beaches. A private driver for a full day runs $40-60 (1,000,000-1,500,000 VND).
  • Where to stay: Long Beach for convenience and food options. Ong Lang for quiet and small resorts. Southern strip (near Khem or Sao) for luxury and isolation.
  • Cash: ATMs are common in Duong Dong. Beach vendors, coconut sellers and small food stalls need small VND notes. Draw 2-3 million VND on arrival.
  • Sunscreen: Bring reef-safe if you plan to snorkel. Regular sunscreen at pharmacies works fine for beach use.
  • Rainy day plan: If a squall hits (uncommon Nov-Apr, common May-Oct), Vinpearl Safari, Phu Quoc Prison Museum, or a Sim Wine cellar visit will fill an afternoon.
  • Budget: For a full cost breakdown, see the Phu Quoc Travel Cost Plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 4 days enough for Phu Quoc?

Yes, if beaches are your focus. Four days covers the south (Sao, Khem), the west (Long Beach, Ong Lang), and one An Thoi boat day without feeling rushed. If you want to add the north coast, the safari, or a dive certification, add two more days.

Which side of Phu Quoc has the best beaches?

The south (Sao Beach, Khem Beach) has the whitest sand and clearest water. The west (Long Beach, Ong Lang) has the best sunsets and the most infrastructure. Most four-day itineraries include both.

Do I need a visa to visit Phu Quoc?

Not if Phu Quoc is your only destination in Vietnam and you fly direct. You can stay up to 30 days visa-free. If you plan to also visit Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, apply for a Vietnam e-visa before you fly.

What is the best month for a Phu Quoc beach trip?

December through February is peak: calm sea, clear sky, warm days around 28-30°C. November and March-April offer near-identical weather with fewer crowds and lower prices. Avoid May-October if beaches are your priority; the southwest monsoon brings choppy sea and daily rain.

Can I do this itinerary without renting a motorbike?

Yes. Grab or a private driver covers everything, but transport costs more, especially for Sao Beach and the northern coast. A full-day private driver for Day 3 (island exploration) is worth the money.

Is fast track worth it at Phu Quoc Airport?

For most daytime arrivals, no. PQC is small and queues move fast.

For late-evening arrivals, peak-season weekends, or if you are travelling with children or elderly parents, the PQC Fast Track Service at $35 cuts the arrival to under 30 minutes and starts the trip calm.

Land calm, leave calm

Four days on Phu Quoc goes fast when the days are built around beaches instead of checklists. Land Sunday, boat trip Tuesday, Sao Beach breakfast Thursday, home by Friday.

The one thing that can tip Day 1 from relaxed to frayed is the immigration queue on a peak-season evening. With Fast Track Vietnam, an agent meets you at the arrival gate, walks you through the priority immigration lane, and gets you to your driver in under 30 minutes. From $35 arrival at PQC.
